A taste of it · 01 The pattern

You have done most of what you set out to do. The career is established, the finances are in order, the relationships are, by any outside measure, intact. And yet there is a quiet, persistent sense of being absent from your own life.

We call this the Silent Gap: the distance between the life being lived and the life wanted. It rarely arrives as a crisis. It arrives as a flatness, a feeling that the goals have gone hollow.

It tends to show up in three ways:

  • A career chosen to satisfy a parent, a bank balance or an idea of who you should be
  • Relationships maintained from obligation rather than connection
  • Days organised around what one should want, rather than what one does

“In one phrase, how would you describe your life from the outside?”
